Capturing the Male Form

Exhibition Dates: April 23 - May 31, 2023, at Q Enoteca, Springfield, MO The depiction of the male form in art history is a rich and multifaceted subject that has captivated artists for centuries. From the idealized and muscular figures of ancient Greece to the emotive portraits of the Renaissance and beyond, the male body has been a subject of admiration, desire, and exploration. John Velo's debut exhibition, "Capturing the Male Form," presents an exciting exploration of the many styles and approaches used to represent the male form. Through his use of watercolor, ink, charcoal, and graphite, John skillfully captures the intricacies and complexities of the male physique, emphasizing the curves, crevices, and textures that make each form unique. The result is a sensual and sophisticated study of masculinity that occasionally straddles the line between figuration and abstraction. "Capturing the Male Form" hopes to encourage the audience to engage with John's timeless representations of masculinity, imbued with an undeniable sensuality and raw emotional intensity. Through his classical compositions and renderings, John offers a fresh perspective on the male form that challenges conventional notions of masculinity and elevates the male physique to a place of beauty and reverence.
