Living in Trenton, Maine, artist Joan Vienot finds infinite inspiration for painting the scenic coastal environment.
Joan taught art in a public high school for three years in her home state of Colorado after receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at the University of Northern Colorado. She moved to Northwest Florida, where she was active in her local arts community, serving on the board of the arts alliance for 6 years, and for 7 years as the volunteer coordinator for the weekly painting group, the Emerald Coast Plein Air Painters. Joan was named a Florida’s Finest Plein Air Ambassador for the 10-day Forgotten Coast en Plein Air invitational event in 2016, 2019, and 2021, tasked with introducing plein air painting to novice painters in 2-hour one-on-one lessons, 15 lessons over 5 days. She was awarded the Artist Residency for the event in 2019. Joan also served on the steering committee for Plein Air South, a conference for plein air painters, in 2021 and 2022.
Moving to Maine in October of 2022 was the beginning of a new adventure, her goal to paint the dramatic Downeast rocky coast. She is active as a member of the local community art center ArtWaves, teaching and volunteering to assist with coordination of member exhibits.
