Jennifer K Brown is an artist based in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
Decades ago, she regularly skipped all but her ceramics classes at University of London to haunt the British Museum’s collection of Greek antiquities, an experience that still shapes her work today.
Her work has been exhibited in area galleries and in Paris.
I’m jazzed by ancient artifacts and fossils, unearthed whole or in fragments from archaeological sites.
I build my ceramic pieces using age-old techniques and finish them to evoke the work of the centuries of potters who preceded me.
When I work with metal, I experiment with ways to age and etch the surfaces to approximate the effects of time.
This is my attempt to keep the past in the present, thereby honoring where we have come from, and what has survived.
