Jessica Reid Thomas is a visual artist who creates large, expressive watercolour landscapes and detailed renderings of flora native to northern Canada. Her work explores the interconnectivity within sub-arctic ecosystems and their impact on human health.
Adapting to a life with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) has guided Thomas’ artmaking practice. She utilizes non-toxic materials and processes that are safe for both herself and the environment. Her work promotes our reconnection with nature to encourage environmental stewardship and, in turn, inspire mutual care for the health and wellbeing of one another.
Her solo exhibition, Wild Refuge is currently at the Rotary Arts Centre in Corner Brook, NL. Her work is held in provincial and public collections, including the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Mental Health and Addictions Centre in St. John’s.
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus. She was born in Labrador City and currently resides there with her family.
