The face of a Frenchie, one of the most expressive of any breed — even when they’re just waiting for you. They bring us endless smiles with that furrowed brow and those soulful eyes. This style of hand-engraving has been around since the 1800s. A panel of Masonite is covered with white clay, and a thin layer of black India ink. Using a small scalpel blade and mini fiberglass brush, I carve through the black ink hair by hair, exposing variable degrees of the white clay beneath. Cared for properly, these portraits can last forever.
This highly detailed Frenchie portrait is custom-framed with museum-quality glass, allowing for closer connection with that adorable face and with the details of the engraving method.
Original engraving has artist’s signature “JKay” engraved at the bottom-left of the portrait.
