Jason Breeden, (b. in San Francisco) is an abstract artist currently based in the Columbia River Gorge, WA. Breeden has lived and showed in Vancouver, BC, New York City, NY, Stockholm, Sweden, San Francisco, CA, Portland, OR, Copenhagen, Denmark and now in Lyle, WA. Works include paintings, mixed media collages and a lot of big ink and pen drawings on paper. After an education in photography and fine arts Breeden has recorded many records but always returning to the visual arts and for the last 4 years committed to building a large body of work out of his art studio in the Columbia River Gorge.

I generally name my pieces after the fact, and let time bring them significance, as in letting the moments define themselves rather than attempting to commandeer motives and risk strangulation of meaning. However, that does not preclude the odd foray into concept if I feel compelled by a particular idea. I try to stay open. I think of painting as a sort of crucible for materialism, where the result allows for the natural attraction we have for erosion and imperfection to reign, assuaging the nerves that have become frazzled from repeatedly attempting (and failing) to produce and maintain ideal forms.
My interest lies in navigating the nebulous, perhaps entropic boundary between structure and chaos to explore organic-esque patterns that emerge from happenstance. Although I am allergic to a certain degree of repetition, I inevitably do have reappearing elements and themes that I cultivate over time. Filagree drawing, undiluted colors, and the multifarious textures in these compositions hopefully serve to intensify the perception of the viewer as they do my own. I want my work to inspire life rather than to remain ensconced within an object.
