I often begin with a photograph of a candid, everyday moment. I may be drawn to the body language, the color, or the atmosphere, but the photograph is only a starting point. I am not trying to copy what is there. I am trying to express the unspoken story behind the moment.

As I paint, the work develops intuitively. I use color, composition, movement, and the way I handle the paint to create a specific feeling. I may change, simplify, or remove parts of the original image when it helps express something that is not immediately visible.

People and relationships are central to my work. I am interested in the different feelings that can exist within the same moment. Love may exist alongside loss, closeness alongside distance, and beauty alongside imperfection.

I want viewers to sense that there is more happening than what they first see. A scene may appear pleasant or familiar, while still holding tension, uncertainty, or something unresolved. I do not want to tell viewers exactly what the story is. I want the painting to leave enough room for them to respond through their own memories and experiences.

I continue working until the colors feel balanced and the feeling I am trying to create is present. Ultimately, I want the work to make the viewer pause and look beyond the surface of the moment.
