I’ve spent most of my adult life painting realistically, trying to capture what I see into a drawing or painting. That visual challenge has kept me motivated to paint in a photo-realistic style. Using this approach has provided a personal appreciation of a variety of subject matter. The bolts and metal cogs of an old diesel engine, the reflection of light on a chrome motorcycle, or light reflecting trees in a puddle along a trail all challenge me to slow down, really look, and appreciate the wonder of nature or mechanical ingenuity.
My goal as an artist is to inspire viewers to slow down and look closely at the detail I attempt to replicate from what I see. I spent over thirty years teaching art. As a teacher, I hoped to inspire my students to create their own personal response to the assigned projects we worked through. As an artist, I hope my work inspires viewers to their own personal response to my work and how it connects to their life experience.
