Everybody brought something wonderful to my apartment in Abidjan for the celebration dinner.

We had worked hard together, sweat it out literally in the humid climate. We argued, laughed and cried together. We’d gone through malaria and hepatitis and other unmentionable tropical nasties.

All of us thrown together, far from our countries of origin, working in minority languages. Each with different areas of expertise and the full range of personalities—visionaries and realists, loud and quiet, extroverts and introverts.

Diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
We endeared ourselves to one another, each making our unique contribution, balancing out extremes, and doing far more together than we could ever have done alone.

Hard work, hard play—a memorable celebration.

And I'm sure we disturbed the neighbors.
