Sean Patrick McLaren was born in Landstuhl, Germany, in 1959 to career U.S. Air Force Parents Merle and Betty McLaren. At an early age, Sean displayed artistic talents, drawing cartoon-like characters with medieval characteristics. Traveling around the world with his parents, Sean was exposed to many different cultures and types of intricate archaic architecture. During his second time in Germany at the age of 11 years, Sean received painting on canvas lessons from local German artists. Sean had always been intrigued by many of the whimsical aspects of medieval architecture. This fascination is reflected in the intricate details of his cottage creations.
Sean was a native of Hays, KS. He was a self-taught artist specializing in minutely detailed, handmade miniature whimsical cottages. Sean's cottage has been displayed at many art shows around the State of Kansas, including Hays Art Council, Bank of Hays, and Dane G. Hansen Memorial Museum. Several of his works can be found in private collections. Each miniature cottage created by Sean entails hundreds of hours of meticulous work. Every tiny feature of each cottage is constructed by hand of wood and stone. Every cottage is a one-of-a-kind work of art.
