I am a painter who creates environmental-based work that focuses on the connections made through the central idea of landscape. I work with water-based gouache, colored pencils, and gloss mediums on large-scale wooden panels, inspired by the Cuyahoga Valley Region's native flora and landscape. My work contemplates our current political culture of environmental detachment, and hope for a reconnection by exploring color and shape through forms inspired by my time spent in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Creating dream-like landscapes, with hyper-saturated colors, unnatural figure ground relationships, and pushing our environment beyond realism. Both inviting and disorienting the viewer to contemplate their own relationship and personal connections with the natural world.
