Peter McIntyre enlisted in 2NZEF (Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force)in England in 1939. He was appointed New Zealand’s Official War Artist in 1941 by Major General Bernard Freyberg. Between 1941 and 1945 McIntyre followed the Second NZ Expeditionary Force in North Africa, Crete and Italy. His war art came to define the NZ soldier’s experience of the Second World War.
