About
Gaia Starace's multidisciplinary practice explores the relationship between memory, culture and place through painting, sculpture and installation. Informed by her background in architecture and interior design, and her experience of living between Italy and Australia, her work moves between abstraction and gestural expression, where materiality, rhythm and mark-making become a language for recording lived experience.
Balancing movement with stillness, structure with intuition, her practice embraces playfulness and experimentation as essential parts of the creative process. Rather than representing specific landscapes or objects, Starace creates works that evoke a sense of place, inviting personal interpretation and emotional connection. Layered surfaces, expressive gestures and an intuitive use of materials reflect her ongoing exploration of identity, landscape and cultural memory. Her artistic and spatial practices continually inform one another, creating works that consider not only the object itself but its relationship to the spaces we inhabit.
