I am a retired physician (professor of medicine) and an amateur artist. I grew up in Hilo, Hawaii and began painting in oil when I was of elementary school age. After graduating from Hilo High School I went to the east coast for university, medical school, and postgraduate studies. I started my academic medical career in Seattle and returned to the Big Island (Kailua Kona) following retirement in 2001 but then in 2002 was appointed as a visiting professor at a medical school in Japan until 2023.
