Baird grew up in upstate New York on Lake George surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains. She then earned her BFA in Sculpture and Studio for Interrelated Media (SIM) from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. Essa moved to Seattle in 2018 and in 2019 became a member of Side Rail Collective in the historic Georgetown district.
Essa Baird is an interdisciplinary artist whose focus is on abstract sculpture and paintings. She works intuitively with a wide range of materials using ceramic, weaving, and painting techniques to create her works. Subtle and understated, Baird’s work does not rely on bold statements but rather plays with the viewer's personal connections and feelings towards the work. The natural world plays a large influence on her work.
