All the leaf and petal looking wings are made by me from clay and pieced together.
The only found items in this body of work are the shells, bamboo for the paint brushes, and driftwood for the centerpieces.
The scrolls, parchment and envelopes are all created/folded by hand (same with the packages) stained with coffee and the satchels are hand dyed and sewn. The little wax seals I made from clay. I made the paintbrushes from organic wool and tiny bamboo shoots.
The glass bottles, metal findings and bells were purchased. All the body’s are sculpted and painted with natural mica pigments. The eyes are all glass.
The difference of such large price gaps are solely from what I deem has taken much more time, detailing, multiple firings/baking and more materials. Nightwing, slightly larger has about 6 or seven leaves per wing and went through multiple firings. Whereas Wind Rider has two leaves per wing and only went through one firing and has less detail in my opinion.
Same goes for the snakes. The larger one had an armature and a ton more working of clay and hand cramping to get full coverage, along with way more detailing/time. The smaller snakes were an lot easier to just roll out a tube of clay and build from that on a smaller scale.
The snails are similar with the sizing and ease/time it takes to create a large one with armature vs a smaller one with none- and more meticulous detailing with the larger pieces.
Voyager went through multiple firings and has more detailing/was a trickier sculpt for how it’s positioned.
The price gap I am sure feels strange and doesn’t look great. It’s just what I know I put into something is how I price it. My fingers are so use to doing certain sculpts, especially on a smaller scale that it seems hard to price higher on certain things sometimes.
