“When writing a fictional story, many times the work will take on its own life with small details going in surprising directions. As the writer I am not fully in control of the narrative. I love that! For the Ostensibly Minimal series it is similar. I'm determined to create something with LOTS of colors or depth. But - like ‘Gold On Black’ - the visuals hit my eye and the painting says 'it's finished'. As you can see, my paintings exert their own level of control during creation which dictates what they become.” -artist’s personal notes.

"Gold On Black" is a striking piece that encapsulates the essence of abstract expressionism. At first glance, the artwork captivates with its dark, nearly black background, which serves as a stark canvas for vibrant streaks of yellow and orange paint. The energetic lines meander and intersect, creating a dynamic and chaotic pattern that draws the viewer into the composition. This interplay of colors and forms is enhanced by the sheer intensity and visual contrast between the bright hues and the dark backdrop.

The expressive and fluid dripping is a testament to gestural abstraction, exuding a sense of movement and spontaneity. Each line appears deliberate yet free. The artwork's layered technique adds depth, suggesting a complexity beneath its seemingly simple surface.

What makes this piece particularly compelling is its balance between intention and intuition. While the artist is committed to creating multiple layers, this very painting dictated its completion, asserting itself as finished despite the artist's initial plans for further additions. The result is a harmonious yet exhilarating visual experience that captures the joy and unpredictability of the drip painting process.

"Gold On Black" stands as a vivid exploration of color, movement, and the dynamic interplay of controlled chaos, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in its spontaneous beauty.
