My husband and I are avid dancers, some ballroom but mostly your basic styles. In Finland we have so-called ‘lavatanssit’ in the summer when we go to these pavilions all over the countryside and dance fusku, which is a form of swing or jive. These dances are very popular, the bands are very good and many people meet their future partners at these dances. We are focusing on the challenging Argentine Tango and take private lessons to get the techniques right. Our dance teacher is a former Finnish Champion and so we are very fortunate to have access to him on a regular basis. We included some Charleston steps into one of our dance performances and it was a lot of fun! I asked AI to find me a couple dancing in a Charleston style. While its peak popularity was in the mid-1920s, variations of the Charleston continued to be danced in the 1930s and 1940s, often integrated into Lindy Hop. I then hand embroidered and machine stitched around the silhouettes to get the effect of the light shining around the dancers.
