African Warthog and young, watercolor on 300lb paper. This is a watercolor painting depicting an adult warthog and its young piglet standing together on a grassy savanna landscape. The adult warthog dominates the left and center of the composition, rendered in warm tawny and sandy brown tones with a characteristic coarse, bristly mane hair along its back and the distinctive wiry tufts on its face. The smaller piglet stands close beside and slightly beneath the adult, mouth open as if vocalizing. Both animals have the dark legs typical of warthogs, and the background features a dramatic contrast of deep, dark stormy skies above and warm golden-orange grassy ground below, giving the scene a rich, atmospheric quality. The painting has a loose, expressive style with visible brushwork, and is signed "downted" in the lower right corner.
