Ocean Dreams is an intuitive abstract painting in which suggestions of water, atmosphere, movement, and landscape emerge from an evolving field of color and form. Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting occupies a space somewhere between an observed seascape and an imagined one.

The work reflects David Heatwole's continuing interest in energy, perception, and the relationships that develop between seemingly independent visual elements. Forms overlap and shift, allowing passages of the composition to suggest waves, distant horizons, currents, or atmospheric movement without resolving into a conventional landscape.

Like much of Heatwole's abstract work, Ocean Dreams leaves room for perception to participate in the creation of the image. What one viewer recognizes as water or sky may appear entirely differently to another. The painting becomes less about describing an ocean than about evoking the experience of discovering imagery within abstraction.

The title itself suggests that uncertain territory—the ocean not necessarily as a physical destination, but as something remembered, imagined, or dreamed.
