Inspired by a performance of the National Symphony in Washington during the fourth of July in 1976 this original Pastel on Rag Board portrait of the first chair cellist from quick sketch studies done during the performance. The original is 30x40" and signed in the lower corner Danal Terry PSA, with the early phonetic spelling that appears on much of his earlier works. Like others in the artist's music series the color palette used represents the key signature's tonality. Even in this early work done around 1978 the artist's fascination with waves of sound or light, enfuses the work with a sense of motion and energy in the pulsating waves of color in the background where much of the figure blends into the music itself inseparable as performer and performance blend in a visual harmony.
