Philippe Halsman was born in 1906 in Riga, Latvia. He spent the early years of his career in Paris doing portrait photography for know fashion magazines, but later moved and continued to work in New York. He is known for his long-time collaboration with artist Salvador Dali and his portraits of other know figures including Albert Einstein. (Halsman Archive, 2015)
