Norman Cousins, a member of Mingei International's Advisory Board, was a perpetual advocate of international understanding. Since the purpose of Mingei International is to further the understanding of the "arts of the people" and through them the cultures of the world, this exhibition of international photography by Norman Cousins was most timely and appropriate. 'Cousins of the World,' organized as a benefit for Mingei International, included 120 photographs by Norman Cousins that captured the photographer's personal perceptions of life forms and textures. "Farewell at Lamborine," "Hungarian Village," and "Three Women in Kyiv" were among the most famous photographs in the exhibition.
