J. H. Reuvers, the son of Dirk Reuvers and Minnie Steubenrauch Reuvers was born in Driel, The Netherlands. He came to America with his parents in 1852 when he was four years of age. His boyhood was spent in Pella. On April 29th, 1881, he married Louisa Herbig, and three children were born to them. When Mr. Reuvers was twenty-four years of age he went to Keokuk, Iowa, to learn photography and upon his return he opened a studio over the Vander Meulen Hardware Store. For fifty-three years he continued in business and during that time he became an authority on pictures. He served the photographers of Iowa as President of their association for two years and was respected for his skill and knowledge in this field.
