About the artist

Marek Cecula

Born in Poland, Cecula studied ceramics in Israel and worked in Brazil before moving to the United States in 1976. He established his first studio, Contemporary Porcelain, and his first studio, Modus Design. At the end of the 1990s, Cecula moved back to Poland, bringing Modus Design Studio with him.

His work is influenced by industrial processes and materials, and seeks to combine functional and decorative arts. At the beginning of Cecula's career, he took inspiration from the Memphis group in Italy, and his later work includes styles from Japanese porcelain, Bauhuas and Soviet avant-garde, art deco, and pop culture.
