Through the ages the female body has been populated with many meanings: the sexualised male gaze, the necessity of the soft, comforting mother body and the youth/ beauty mystique. There is pressure today on women to be flawless and young, to be nurturing, giving and accommodating. But I wonder what the female body would say if she could speak for herself. What bittersweet stories of hardship and beauty would she tell? What wisdom of experience and embodiment would she bring forth from her depths? What scars would tell of her perseverance and stamina in the face of complex difficulties? What blemishes would tell of her individuation and uniqueness?
