Boundless Inspiration

February 3, 2023 - April 14, 2023

Hamilton Gallery

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars, to change the world.” - Harriet Tubman

Welcome to the new art exhibition at Children’s Hospital Colorado- Boundless Inspiration. This show is all about sharing the creativity and individuality of our local Black arts community in conjunction with the hospital’s celebration of Black History Month.

Colorado has a rich history of Black and African American cultural influence from the jazz greats who played here, to extensive libraries and museums, to modern dance performances and arts festivals. The artists you see in this exhibition continue this grand tradition.

What does it mean to be boundless? It is limitless, abundant, and full of infinite possibility.
“Never be limited by other people’s imaginations” - Dr. Mae Jemison

Special thanks to our exhibit advisory committee, Nakisha Grant-Perry, Petrena Ismael, Sheila Morgan, Chanel Turner, and Tohbias Juniel. Children's Hospital Colorado is grateful for your support and partnership. This exhibition would not be possible without the leadership of The Afrocentric Network (TAN) Children's Hospital Colorado's Black/African/African American Team Member Resource Group. Many of the pieces you see are for sale, the proceeds benefit our local creative community and Children’s Hospital Colorado. Check the art labels for more information.

Mae Jemison

About the artist

Zaida Sever

My medium of choice has always been 2D visual art, be it digital or traditionally made. A human experience that can be empathized is what I strive for. I’ve found art to be an incredible outlet for expressing my love for being a biracial person, even when I’m white-passing and physically do not represent my black heritage. Many of my personal pieces serve as love letters to black beauty, variety, and the multicultural experience from my perspective.

“My inspiration lies heavily within comic books, historical photography, and film, for they capture emotion and power in ways that are not tangible, but still impact the viewer immensely.”
