This is the first piece I finished for my capstone. It's an art object that can be displayed horizontally on a table, hung on a wall, or worn. It has a silver, web-like frame and a layer of black enamel behind that. This piece is representative of the meditation practice I developed in my first year of art school to help me focus my mind on creative work. I was very preoccupied by family issues and health issues, but I was determined to make the most of the time I had for my work. I would draw these web-like shapes and try to think about who I was meeting, what I was learning and what tools I had access to, so I could leverage these resources in the making of my next piece. Drawing the intersections in the shapes visually reinforced this meditation so my mind didn't wander back to the worries I was trying to get space from.
