Claudia Brown, a talented artist who graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1970, embarked on a creative journey that initially centered on the intricate realms of sculpture and ceramics. With a unique vision and a passion for craftsmanship, she immersed herself in the world of functional ceramics, aspiring to create exquisite objects that would not only serve a purpose but also enrich the lives of those who owned them.
As she pursued her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Claudia developed a profound fascination with transparent glazes, captivated by the interplay of light and texture, and how these elements could transform the tactile experience of her pieces. Each creation was a dialogue between the viewer and the ceramic surface, inviting admiration and reflection.
However, as life often presents unforeseen challenges, a physical handicap ultimately hindered her ability to work with clay, leading her to pivot back to her artistic roots in painting. In her stunning oil and watercolor works, Claudia continues to explore her love for light, employing veils of pigment reminiscent of her earlier explorations with glazes. She believes that the quality of light not only imbues her paintings with a unique sensation but also fosters an intimate conversation between the artwork and the viewer, inviting them to engage with the emotional depth and visual beauty she so masterfully captures on canvas.
