Statement

Fragments of the City. Reflections of Ourselves. Some cities are built of concrete. Others are built from memory.

Urban Echoes explores imagined cities that exist not on any map, but somewhere between memory and imagination. Through painting, concrete, plexiglass, and mirrored surfaces, fictional urban landscapes emerge where color, light, and shifting perspectives continually reshape perception.

Mirrored surfaces blur the boundary between reflection and transparency. As viewers move around the work, images shift, dissolve, and reappear, merging objects, bodies, and surrounding space. Memory and invention become inseparable. Open to interpretation, the works reveal new meanings with every encounter. Like memory itself, they continue to evolve, suggesting that the city is never fixed, but always becoming.

Perhaps the cities we remember most are the ones we imagine.

Cari Cohen is a Miami-based contemporary artist originally from Buenos Aires. Trained as an architect, she creates paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media installations exploring architecture, memory, light, and perception. Using acrylic, plexiglass, mirror, concrete, and plaster, Cohen combines geometry, transparency, reflection, and color to create imagined environments that shift with the viewer’s perspective. Her work has been exhibited at Art Miami, CONTEXT Art Miami, Art Santa Fe, Miami Dade College, Contemporaneo Gallery, Wit Gallery, and Citibank. She will present an upcoming solo exhibition at the Hollywood Art and Culture Center soon.
