Ears back. That's the tell. A hare doesn't run first, it goes still first, body dropped low and long against the ground, one ear laid flat to the length of the spine. This one's caught in that stretch, the whole form pulled into a single low line instead of the crouched, ready shape most people picture.
The form holds that instant before a decision gets made. Stay, or go. Nothing dramatic in it. Most of a hare's life is spent exactly like this, unmoving, reading the field before committing to anything.
Built in stoneware, the body worked down to a long taper with the ear drawn out from the same mass rather than added on. Porcelain slip over the surface, left largely bare so the form reads by shadow and edge rather than colour. Oxide wash settled into the seams and the fold at the base of the ear, with a single dark mark left for the eye.
