As an artist living in the mountain west, my work is a response to the sense of wonder and belonging that I experience in nature. I explore my relationship to Colorado’s landscape with flowing color fields and bold palettes. The transparent etching ink that I use creates unexpected shapes and colors that develop organically and are revealed gradually with each consecutive run through the press. I consider how the light moves across the mountains, obscuring and revealing landforms. I think about the ways in which color and form come together and hold me transfixed. How do the elements of a landscape shift my perspective and give me a sense of both smallness and belonging? My mixed media paintings are slow meditations that take place across seasons. I harvest and dry leaves, blossoms and seed pods, marveling at their shapes and textures. I press them into ink then paper. Through the process of creation, the memory and magic of nature is etched in my mind.

I am in awe of the beauty of our world - small and common, immense and spectacular. It is all around us. Everyday. I believe that sharing a sense of awe through my art encourages others to move more slowly, more receptively, through the world’s wild and mundane places and to find connection with the natural world again.
