For All Seasons (deaccessioned - damaged )

In the artist's own words: "This four seated bench represents the four seasons. The mosaic murals are the focal point and the seat and armrests seem to somewhat disappear. This unique bench has a multitude of symbols and colors that depict the changing seasons."

Colorado's weather is difficult for tile and mosaic art. Repeated cycles of freezing and thawing moisture cause tiny cracks in the mortar and grout that hold the tiles in place. Even with careful maintenance, eventually tiles will become loose.

After a few winters, tiles and the backrest separated from this bench, leaving it unsafe and unsightly. Repairs were expensive, and would have needed to be repeated every few years. The decision was made to deaccession this piece.

This piece was funded in part by a grant from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).
