2021 Finalist, Grade 8

Haylee Williams

Sitting for Change, 2021

Used shoes and acrylic on canvas.

30 x 24 in

Teacher: Cheryl Lunger (2024-25 Ambassador)
School: Lavilla School of the Arts, Jacksonville, FL

Excerpt from artist’s Impact Statement: " I wanted to show the significance of what Dion and the other protesters were doing by going against the unjust laws that existed then. So, I decided to represent the power of law enforcement with a looming shadow and by showing the officer’s shoes as if he was coming to detain the unwanted customers."
