Amber Coppings’s artistry, rooted in art therapy training, explores nonlinear paths toward healing through studio and community practice. Her work begins in her Honolulu community garden, cultivating reciprocal relationships with dye and cordage plants. This connection informs the naturally dyed, body-sized sculptures and quilt-inspired tapestries she creates, inspired by the layered process of remembering and shifting inner and collective narratives.
Currently an MFA candidate at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Coppings has extensive experience facilitating arts programs for women in recovery and teaching fiber arts. Amber has exhibited her work in First Hawaiian Center, Artists of Hawaiʻi, Fiber Hawaiʻi, Fiberart International, the Mattress Factory Contemporary Art museum; Art Quilt Studio and UPPERCASE magazines; and her wearable art is worn by collectors all over the world
