Sofi is a creative, multifaceted, observant, and outspoken person. She was born in BanĂ, Dominican Republic, and moved to the United States when she was 7 years old. She observes complex issues, creates pieces about them, and represents her perspective in her work with depth. She became interested in art because she needed a place to release her feelings and thoughts and continued using it as a form of journaling. Over the years, her art has become more symbolic of the challenges she faces or observes.
When I make an art piece, I usually base it on my critical thinking about an issue or on my feelings. Sometimes I reflect on an issue, usually something I care about, and form an opinion about it that becomes part of my artwork. Other times, I start a piece out of boredom and later expand on it, adding more detail until it becomes a symbol of something I feel. If it is neither of those, which is rare, it is something I synthesized.
