From the series "Screaming Pope", started in 2023 in homage to British artist Francis Bacon (1909-1992). While my ongoing series encompasses works in various formats, both on canvas and paper, I here present a small sub-series of canvas works all done in 80x40x4.5 cm. This piece is utterly peculiar in the extreme reduction and choice of colors: With the exception of tiny streaks of red, it features only orange and blue - both colors that, in reality, are never seen on a catholic priest's cassock, let alone any of the Pope's. Moreover, in the chest region the two strange colors seem to be smeared into something undefinable (is it olive?) which makes for a slightly dirty look...
