About the artist

Pete Turner

American

1934-2017

Pete Turner (1934-2017) was an American artist who pioneered the use of color photography during its early commercial stages in the mid-20th century. After graduating from the Rochester Institute of Technology, Turner joined the US military, where he experimented with new color materials and ultimately operated the facility's color lab.

Turner is renowned for his highly saturated color photographs of global landscapes, with his work "Giraffe" first earning him widespread attention. The influence of Turner's work far surpassed his community in New York City, with his work belonging in global permanent collections.
