WDAV

The Newell Building is home to WDAV 89.9, a public radio service of Davidson College and licensed to the Trustees of Davidson College. WDAV provides classical music and cultural arts programming of the highest quality.

Built in 2001-02 specifically to house WDAV radio station, the building is named for Dr. Samuel W. Newell, Jr '39 and minister of Davidson College Presbyterian Church from 1953 to 1961. Works from the Davidson College Art Collection are installed throughout the hallways and meeting spaces.

About the artist

Allan D'Arcangelo

American

1930-1998

Early American Pop artist. D'Arcangelo is known for paintings of clipped sections of highways and road signs. He worked with corporate simple, flat geometric forms often taken from the perspective of a driver on the road. He had a fascination with industrial imagery and drew inspiration from Minimalism and Abstract Expressionists, specifically de Chirico.
