About the artist

Kristina Rogers

American (b. Germany)

1945-2011

Kristina Rogers was a photographer born in Heidelberg, Germany on February 11, 1945, just months before the end of World War II. After the war, her family emigrated first to London, England in 1947, and then to the United States in 1950. When Rogers was nine years old, her family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. In the 1960s, Rogers returned to London to study art at the Inchbaud School of Design, where she was drawn to 19th-century Romanticism. She is known for her multi-layered photography using overlapping negatives to combine personal, historical, religious, and mythological imagery. Her work has exhibited at the Columbia Museum of Art, SC and is in the permanent collection of the Mint Museum, Charlotte, NC and the North Carolina Museum of Art.
