About the artist

Marsha Burns

American

b. 1945

American painter and photographer who studied at the University of Washington. After meeting her husband, Michael Burns, she began studying at the University of Massachusetts and moved to Amherst. Burns began photographing while in living in Texas, but switched to figure study after moving to Seattle. In 1984, she travelled to Berlin and found inspiration in young adults who disregard mainstream culture. Burns doumented these youth in an expository photography series.
