About the artist

John H. Hunter

American

b. 1934

John H. Hunter is an American painter, collagist, and printmaker who spans painting, lithography, and mixed media. Hunter is particularly recognized for his contributions to printmaking, especially lithography during the 1960s and 1970s, associated with postwar and contemporary American art. He was born in 1934 in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania. He pursued his higher educaiton in California, earning a BA from Pomona College. He continued his studies at Fremont Graduate School, where he received his MA degre. Hunter was also an active teacher. He taught at Ohio State University, served as a guest artist at Indiana University, Bloomington, California State University, and guest artist at Tamarind Lithography Workshop. Hunter currently lives and works in San Jose, California, continuing a career that bridges painting and printmaking within the broader context of postwar American art.
