About the artist

Eliot Porter

American

1901-1990

American photographer. Porter worked as a researcher in the biology department of Harvard University with degrees in both medicine and chemical engineering. Following his encounters with Ansel Adams and Alfred Stieglitz, Porter was inspired to start his career in photography. He is best known for nature color photographs, and he was featured in his New York gallery in 1938 by Stieglitz.
