About the artist

Don Cooper

b. 1944

American painter. Cooper's works are inspired by universal symbols and explore divergent meanings of those symbols that express the psychological and spiritual states of the mind. Through his travels across United States and abroad, Cooper has extensively explored symbolism in diverse cultural contexts. He has been awarded the Fulbright fellowship, SECCA 7, the Southern Arts Federation, CGR and Awards in the Visual Arts. His works have been in over 30 solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions. In 2004, he was included in the MOCA GA exhibition and has since been awarded 2007 MOCA GA Working Artist Project Grant and the Judith Alexander Artadia Award in 2009. His works are in permanent collections of The Greenville County Museum of Art, Morris Museum of Art, and Lauren Rogers Museum of Art.
