About the artist

Joseph Goldyne

American

b. 1942

Joseph Goldyne is an American artist and curator often credited with the rebirth of the monotype and monoprint in art. Goldyne was first educated as a physician before turning to art and receiving his MA at Harvard University. Working primarily as a printmaker, his earlier work spanned an unusually wide subject matter, depicting religious imagery related to his Jewish heritage, articles of clothing, food, and other items. Since 2005, his focus has been on the waterfall, a subject he pursues from imagination as opposed to working from photographic references. Goldyne's pieces have been included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C., and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
