About the artist

Jane Wilson

American

1924-2015

Jane Wilson was an American painter who grew up on a farm in Iowa before moving to New York City in 1949. Her paintings are considered a blend of expressionism and realism, depicting still lifes, Manhattan street scenes, and sometimes portraits, though landscapes were her primary focus. She is best known for her later works, which explored the relationship among land, sea, and sky, creating an ethereal atmosphere. Wilson is recognized for her landscapes that exist between representation and abstraction.
