About the artist

Richard Smith

British

1931-2016

British painter. Known for semi-sculptural abstract works that resembled kites. Attended Luton School of Art, served in the Royal Air Force in Hong Kong, and received MFA from the Royal College of Art in London. Settled in New York in 1976, where he taught and crafted works that maintained a dialogue with Color Field painting and Pop Art.
