About the artist

Aliansyah Caniago

Indonesian

b. 1987

Indonesian painter. Caniago studied painting at Bandung Institute of Technology Faculty art and Design. He has participated in many performance art workshops in Germany, Poland, Singapore, Japan, and Thailand. Caniago's performance art is centered around activism within the public space. His interventions and site specific works enter areas of conflict through art in an effort to incite change and to repair instances of damaged environment. He is now a fellow of Melati Suryodarmo at a performance art practice in Solo, Indonesia. Caniago is also one of the founders of an artist collective space in Bandung, Ruang Gerilya. He has recieved multiple awards and honors including the 4th Bazaar Art Award, Top Honor Indonesian Art Award and the Bandung Contemporary Art Award.
