About the artist

Prentiss Taylor

American

1907-1991

Studied lithography at New York’s Art Students League (1931) and earned two fellowships at the MacDowell Colony and at Yaddo. Had his first solo show at the MacBeth Gallery in New York City in 1934. Was elected President of the Society of Washington Printmakers (1942) and served as president for 34 years. Became an associate of the National Academy of Design in 1948. Has exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Library of Congress among many other institutions. Represented the U.S. at the Paris Exposition in 1937 and at the Venice Biennial in 1940. Works reside in the permanent collections of many prestigious institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian National Museum of American Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
