About the artist

elin o'Hara slavick

American

b. 1965

American photographer and interdisciplinary artist, slavick received her MFA in photography from the Art Institute of Chicago and her BA from Sarah Lawrence College. Her work has been exhibited internationally including at the Gallery of Contemporary Art, University of Colorado, Colorado Springs; Gallery G, Hiroshima, Japan; North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh; The Mint Museum, Charlotte; and Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art and History, Masterton, New Zealand. Her series, "After Hiroshima," is a collection of cyanotypes of atomic-bombed artifacts from the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum Archive. As a set, they work to unearth what was lost and what remains after the nuclear destruction in 1945. These works can be found in the monograph of the same name with an essay by the American art historian and critic, James Elkins. slavick was a Professor of Visual Art, Theory and Practice at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for 27 years and became Professor Emerita in 2020. She is also an author, curator, critic, and activist.
